<ASHES> | Mist: Ward 20, Plot 26
A Final Fantasy XIV Free Company located on Mateus (NA - Crystal)
RECRUITMENT: OPEN

"Without the fire, the phoenix never rises from the ashes."

About Us

Coming from as humble roots as a sellsword's life allows, the Ashes' story is an opportunistic one. Not exactly a philanthropic cause, nor a syndicate, the group operates below the surface and autonomously from Eorzea's Grand Companies. Most of the company's work is received from independent employers and clients; people who have been overlooked and ignored by other outfits. Acting upon the goal of gil alone, they will do whatever it takes even if it means setting ethics aside. After all, no job is beneath them, and no pay is too small.

The Company of Ashes is a mercenary based roleplaying free company situated on Mateus. Although the company itself is a fresh face to the server, it was founded by experienced roleplayers and when it comes to writing, we value quality over quantity. To capitalize on this, we focus heavily on ensuring each of our members are given a tailored and inclusive experience. Our in-character framework thrives off of a character-driven and lore-abiding narrative; players proactively pushing a story forward will always be encouraged, so long as any use of creativity is within the realm of believability in canonical lore.

As our roleplay intensity is best summed up as medium frequency, our events are usually scheduled on a once a week basis (two events per week at most). The days on which events are held varies—our scheduling is meant to be flexible and will be adjusted based on when the roster calls for it. Barring the typical gritty themes that naturally come with mercenary roleplay, we also have a balanced mix of lighthearted, comedic, and serious undertones alike. If you prefer a completely no-nonsense Dark Souls-style RP environment, this FC is likely not a good fit for you.

On an OOC level, we are a small and close-knit group of like-minded and laidback players. Other than RP, we also heavily enjoy partaking in the vast array of content FFXIV has to offer.

Leadership

C'ehres Tia - Questionably the top brass of the Ashes and commander of the Battalion division. What C'ehres lacks in any redeeming leadership qualities, he makes up with staunch ambition, a keen eye for business, and an aptitude for marksmanship.

R'abodji Jhida - An aetherologist first and a mercenary second, she helms the Chirurgeon division. Though not the most physically inclined, R'abodji is well-read. Alongside her duties as an employee and division leader, she advises C'ehres Tia on most things financial.

Ranks

Captain - GM rank; self-explanatory.

Lieutenant - Officer rank.

Battalion - The combat-capable—they are first responders when a threat is identified and are also the ones who help to keep the less combative members safe on the field.

Chirurgeon - The medically inclined—either through traditional medicine or conjury, they skillfully tend to any and all sorts of ailments to keep the Ashes employees in tip-top shape for their next job.

Specialist - The backbone of the company—whether craftsmen or merchants, these are the employees who help to make sure the Ashes keeps running, and that our various needs are met.

New Hire - New member trial rank. The trial period lasts one month. If the member has shown persistent activity and has not otherwise caused a breach of guidelines post-trial period, they will be considered a full-fledged member and allowed to pledge themselves to one of the three in-company divisions.

Alt / OOC - Self-explanatory. Members are allowed two alts in the FC. Trials are not allowed any alts in the FC.

Rules

We tend to be on the more lenient end with our rules and trust our members to act with common sense. Consequences are made with the severity of offenses in mind—this could include a warning, temporary mute, or ultimately, a kick/ban. We reserve the right to also remove a member with or without notice; consider this your first warning.

« Community Conduct »
Although we impose little in the way of chat restrictions, remember that there are obviously some things you should keep to yourself and every member is expected to conduct themselves responsibly and treat each other with respect. This expectation also extends outside of any of our FC chats. Remember that once you are wearing our FC tag, you represent us. Malicious behavior and engaging in public ERP or having any remotely and inadequately tagged NSFW content in your search info, carrd, character reference sheets, etc. will not be tolerated.

« Activity »
Life happens. Integrating yourself into a new group is daunting. FFXIV might be going through a content drought and there are other games catching your interest. We've heard it all, gone through these sorts of things ourselves, and we get it. Because of this, there isn't a lot of pressure to attend every single event or always be around for any FC happenings. However, we ask that you please join our FC with the intention of investing some of your time into us, as we will be investing ours in you.

Members who have made little to no effort to interact or have not been online in 160 days—that is six whole months—will be given an early warning via Discord and swiftly removed if the inactivity persists. This does not apply to anyone who has otherwise given a notice of absence beforehand. Any previous veteran member who was affected by this rule can contact an officer for a reinvite to the FC with no reinterview required.

« Internal Conflict »
If there is any issue that is not otherwise resolved by communication between all parties involved, do not hesitate to reach out to an officer. Ensure that you have a train of thought put together and please do not come to us in a fit of rage. If applicable, please provide screenshots alongside your take on the matter and anyone else who was involved (telling us that "you don't want to name any names" is not a valid answer).

« In-character Expectations »
We are a quality controlled FC and only practice lore-abiding RP. A little bit of lore bending is okay, but lore should never be bent so hard to the point that it breaks. Exceptions can be made for any member, prospective or current, who show an active readiness to improve their RP and are comfortable with constructive criticism—we are willing to help you construct a well-rounded and lore-compliant character while staying as true to your original ideas as possible.

Standard RP guidelines also obviously apply to our expectations: IC does NOT equal OOC. No meta-gaming or godmodding. Remember to provide enough effort and substance in your posts for your RP partners to work with. Give everyone a chance to shine. Dice rolls in any given situation will never forfeit the presence of clever play. Imperative decisions, such as character permadeath, will ALWAYS be made at the players' discretion, bad roll streak or not.

« Recruitment & Member Cap »
We highly value inclusivity and as such, we aim to maintain a small and close-knit community. That being said, we also have limitations in regards to events and recruitment. We aim to have a roster of no more than twenty-five unique members at any given moment. Officer hosted events will usually be run with no more than eight people (that is an in-game full party) to ease up on chat scroll and to provide everyone greater opportunity to comfortably write. Groups of initially two to three people seeking to join the FC are fine, but anything larger (even if the group trickles into the roster gradually) can tip off the balance of the community. The officers will not hesitate to kick the entirety of a large group if we find that it gets out of hand.

Requirements to Join

1) Be a well-rounded roleplayer. We also highly prefer lore-abiding characters.
2) Have a good grasp on spelling, grammar, etc. Exceptions are made for those whose first language isn't English.
3) If you're applying on a character that isn't max-level, ensure that you will continue leveling while joining—our events might take place in higher level zones and we wouldn't want anyone feeling left out.
